Fifteen years after its production was stalled following the explosion of its Brewing Boiler, existing staff of premier bottling company, Golden Guinea Breweries (GGB) Umuahia has pleaded with the Core Investor to consider them while recruiting new staff.
The existing
staff whose number could not be ascertained made the plea in an address presented
by the National Union of Food, Beverages and Tobacco Employees (NUFBTE) branch
of the brewery industry during a the reception that was held in honour of the
Core Investor, Sir Okey Nzenwa, after a thanksgiving service at the St.
Finbarrs’ Catholic Church, Umuahia.
The Chairman of NUFBTE, GGB Branch, Comrade
Samuel Amanze said their plea became necessary given the flying rumor making of
their possible exclusion during recruitment of new workers.
“In a
special way we
want to use this opportunity to entreat the Core Investor to do the needful
by recalling and
reintegrating all our existing
(workers) members of staff before the employment of new
workers”. This he said will give the management
the actual number of
vacancies to be filled.
Knowing what led to the crippling production in the company, Amanze said it was a thing of thanksgiving to God for bringing into play a Core Investor fifteen years after the company stopped production in the person of Okey Nzenwa who has been putting all efforts to see that the Moribund Factory bounces back to full production in a short while.
The Union members
also expressed gratitude to the State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu for his wisdom in improving
the ease-of-doing business in Abia state of which without, the possibility of Golden
Guinea Breweries bouncing back to full production will have been unrealistic.
In his response while addressing the former staff,
the Core Investor, Okey Nzenwa, remarked that he was impressed for
the historic gathering after fifteen years the company had gone moribund due to boiler
explosion in 2003.
While he prayed for the four departed staff who lost their lives in the tragic incident, he urged the Staff to prepare to commence working as arrangements has been made to engage each and every one of them back to production.
Chief Nzenwa commended former staff for steadfastness despite all the predicaments suffered within the period, assuring them of motivating welfare packages that will reduce the shock and troubles the went through during all the time of staying umeployed, as the union went home with smiles on their faces.
