The people of Isiukwuato community in Abia State Yesterday takes
protest to All Progressive Congress (APC) Secretariat Umuahia over
plans by the party to replace their choice candidate Austin Eugene
The protesters include men, women and youths in the Area numbering
over 150 barricaded party’s secretariat along Azikiwe road amidst
placards with inscription “Austin Eugene Uche is our choice”, he has
laboured for the party, no Austin no vote for APC in Isiukwuato, we
won’t allow imposition and so forth, wondered why the party is trying
to rob the people’s mandates.
Speaking to Journalists, leader of the party in the Area Emenonye
Ogbugo lamented that after a successful primary that produced Austin
Eugene Uche a forth night ago, they were shocked that some cabals in
the party from Umunneochi Local Government Area are seriously trying
to replace the candidate for the state House of Assembly with aim to
impose one Barr. Emeka Okoroafor against the wishes of the people.
He said that the people will not allow any form of imposition of
candidate by the party, declaring that such attempt will be resisted
and rejected by the entire Isiukwuato community while urging the State
party leadership to do the needful as matter or urgent.
Ogbugo wondered why Barr. Emeka Okroafor who never contested in the
party’s primary would suddenly emerge as candidate when his name was
not mentioned during the recent concluded exercise and appealed to the
party to save itself from unnecessary rancor.
Also speaking, the woman leader of the party in the area Mrs. Gift
Onwuka insisted that only Austin Eugene Uche was the candidate of the
party and that any attempt to rob them from their chosen candidate
will create crisis in the party.
Mrs. Onwuka urged the party to allow the preferred candidate to
represent the community, stating that the numbers of people protesting
at the party secretariat today are clear evidence that Austin Eugene
Uche is the people’s choice for Isiukwuato State House of Assembly.
Meanwhile, efforts to speak with the State Party Chairman, Hon.
Donatus Nwankpa proved unsuccessful as he was away for a weekend
according to party officials
