Rotary Club Celebrates Rotary Family Health Days in Umuahia

Rotary Club Celebrates RFHD

Rotary International district 9142, Umuahia, Abia State, Thursday, joined Rotarians across the globe to mark the 2018 Rotary Family Health Days, RFHDs.
The three day annual free nationwide health services which featured HIV testing and counselling, dental care, cervical/Breast/Prostrate Cancer screening, diabetes and glucose level screening, polio immunization, tuberculosis screening etc was targeted to affect about fifteen thousand persons across communities in Nigeria.
Addressing members of the public during the event which took place at Laguru-Ubakala healthcare center, Umuahia, Abia State, the Assistant Governor zone five (5) Rotary International, Umuahia, Rtn. Chimdi Oluoha said the programme was mostly designed for the indigent and the less privileged who could not access healthcare services.
He said the Rotary Family Health Days, RFHDs programme across the communities in Nigeria are a comprehensive, holistic offering of free healthcare for parents, children, grandparents, friends and all family members, pointing out that the RFHD programme is about Rotarians taking the lead in a massive health campaign and living their motto of “service above self.
He called on the residents of Ubakala community and environ to seize the opportunity offered by the Rotary International to effectively access the healthcare services which was offered free of charge.
Speaking also, the IT Personnel Rotary Family healthcare in Abia State, Rtn. Dr. Lucky Oseghe said the club members who are professional doctors and nurses volunteered their services for the success of the programme, adding that critical issues they could not handle during the healthcare services would be referred to the higher hospital.
In his speech, the local organizing chairman for the event, Rtn. Odigbo Ezekwem advised the beneficiaries not to abuse the drugs given to them, rather take it as it was prescribed by the doctors. “They should shun self medication and visit a medically trained personnel anytime the need arises”, he further advised.
Speaking on behalf of other Rotary Presidents from district 9142, Umuahia, the Rotary President of Umuahia central, Rtn. Martins Uchenna Kalu said the programme was designed to bring healthcare services to the rural communities and communities where Rotary club exists.
Earlier in his speech, the Executive Chairman of Umuahia South L.G.A, Hon. Obioma Ezeogbulafor represented by the Supervisory Councillor on women affairs and health, Hon. Mrs. Maureen Emenike appealed to members of the public to take advantage of the programme to access the healthcare services, as Rotary club came to give life to the people of Umuahia South free of charge.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after benefitting from the healthcare services, the traditional ruler of Avodim autonomous community, Ubakala, HRH Eze Boniface Onyemachi commended Rotary club district 9142 for the humanitarian service, insisting that “it is worth emulating”.
